Over the years we’ve supplied advanced fire-rated glazing systems to a number of airports.
Airport Destinations
Last year, we completed a contract for an aircrew training facility at Gloucester Airport.
We’ve also supplied to London Heathrow, Gatwick and Luton and, internationally to Doha and Dubai airports.
We’re now completing a project for IAG Cargo who are building a new £55 million premium facility at Heathrow Airport.
The new building will be twice the size of their existing facility and will include a larger dedicated Constant Climate Quality Centre for pharmaceuticals.
Our customer for this project is Apic UK Limited and we’re supplying three fixed lights and a run of curtain walling.
The ‘Wright’ System
The systems used were our 50/60 series and SR60 series curtain wall, giving either a fire rating of EI60 or EI30 for different locations.
The systems have been fabricated and are now being powder coated.
Our systems are ideal for airport facilities because, for integrity and insulation, our vertical curtain wall façade provides between 30 minutes and 120 minutes of fire protection.
Wrightstyle’s roof light applications provide between 30 minutes and 60 minutes of protection.
Our curtain wall façade utilises cold-rolled, pre-galvanised or stainless steel profiles from our 60mm wide SR system.
These profiles are used in conjunction with specially produced fire-resistant gaskets and profiled stainless steel pressure plates.
This ensures that edge pressure is maintained throughout any fire exposure.
Another advantage is that, due to our system’s unique construction, any thickness and type of fire-rated glass can be accommodated.
This allows for different fire ratings to be achieved without changing the system arrangement.
It’s an aesthetic advantage that allows for fire and non-fire rated glasses to be incorporated within one overall design.
